Havanese are very gentle dogs who are natural companions which is very similar to great dane puppies. They often become very attached to their human owners. This will include following their owners around this house They are very smart dogs and also very playful. These type of dogs are easy to obedience train and can be mixed with other dogs or cats without many problems as they are not aggressive to other animals.
They can be very good guard dogs as they will very quickly alert you to any visitor . Despite their small size they seem quite brave and will often bark at other larger dogs. These dogs are well suited to living in an apartment but they still require exercise. You should take your Havanese on a daily walk and train them to heel on the lead. They may be a small dog that cant really pull you even if they tried, but it is a good idea to train them properly so in their eyes you are the pack leader.
Normally the coat is quite long and needs to be brushed thoroughly 2-3 times per week as the hair can be as long as 6-8 inches . If you prefer you can clip the hair shorter for easier care. Havanese dogs live to around 14-15 years old. They grow to between 3-6kg in size . Because of their floppy ears they can be prone to ear infections and should have their ears checked regularly by a vet.
Havanese come in a few different colours, mainly a combination of white, brown or black. They are very good around children which makes it a popular choice for families with young kids. These dogs are very easy to train to do tricks as they enjoy doing things for people and learn quickly.
