When first bred the Retriever was a breed used to retrieve dead birds during hunting. As they are an intelligent dog they were later used for other reasons such as drug detection, guide dogs and also search and rescue. They are very loving and friendly dogs .

They originally came from scotland in the 1800′s as the ultimate hunting dog.because they could run large distances . The first Golden retriever was accepted for registration to the Kennel club of England in 1903.. There are a few differences between a English Golden retriever and an American bred one. This includes differences in muzzle size, head size, leg length and weight.The coat can be anywhere from light golden to dark golden and they have short hair which requires less grooming than most dogs. Like great dane puppies this breed does not shed hair very much compared to other dogs.

Golden retrievers are very active especially as puppies. They are also very friendly and intelligent dogs. Retrievers are great with young children because they are very gentle which makes this breed a very popular family dog. Theese dogs really enjoy their pleasing their masters which makes them easy to train. Obedience training should be done when they are puppies as it will have very positive results for when they grow into adults.
