Great Dane’s are one of the worlds tallest dogs coming second only to the Irish Woofhound. Great Dane puppies grow much quicker than other breeds of dogs. At birth they average less than 1kg , after 2 months they have usually grown to a size of between 6-14 kg. After 6 months these once small puppies can weigh anywhere from 30-45kg!

They start maturing around 1 year old where they would have now grown to a size between 45-65kg. For this reason if you are looking at getting a great dane it is important to have a large backyard or space for them to run in. They are very active dogs that love to run around and chase a ball. They require lots of exercise and are not really suited for life in an apartment.

My great dane was a blue great dane who grew to full adult size of about 65kg. He ate a LOT of food, we fed him twice a day with raw bones and meat which he seemed to devour without chewing. Yes they have very big mouths ( i am sure they could almost swallow a tennis ball if they wanted to)

I am about 6″1 or 185cm tall and if my dog jumped up on me with his front paws on my shoulders he was taller than me. The tallest ever recorded great dane was called Gibson who was 7ft”1 or 215.9cm tall on his hind legs!  Although these animals are very large and can seem intimidating they are actually very docile and friendly. They will bark at strangers and are protective of their territory.

Great dane puppies tend to stay in the puppy phase for about 1 year, they can be destructive to plants, clothes on the line because they are always playing. If you give them plenty of exercise and get them puppy training from a young age this destructive behavior decreases.

For me the blue great dane puppies are the cutest, they have a very cool blue colour and their coat is very soft and smooth. They never need to be brushed because the hair from their coat is very short. These puppies are also a very good attention magnet when you go out to a park or public location. Even when they grow to a full adult size they are such a magnificent looking dog that people often come up to you to ask questions or pat your dog. They are also a great companion dog and actually very intelligent despite what you may have heard.
